Wow, what a busy and productive day on Saturday!

Four new tee boxes completed and one refilled, two huge downed trees cut up on 14 and 18, one annoying overhanging branch on 18 removed, one large pile of logs cut, moved, and stacked on 4, one step inserted on 16, and the tee 5 area was prettied up with flowers.

Thank you for showing the Hill some love! I really appreciate your help.

Our reward for a day of hard work was of course to test our product with a quick round. Early reviews are good, but it was a little weird being in an actual tee box! Sadly, although the view from tee 18 is more fair to those vertically-challenged players, the boulder just isn't as imposing to me as it was before. What do you think?

Rock bottom

We hauled 9 million tons of rock up to 18 and lined the bottom of the box. After it is filled with dirt the hole may play a little different by being a little higher off the tee.

Maybe not, but I'm sure it'll feel different the first time you step up. I hope you short golfers appreciate us raising the box for you!

Over the Hill at the Hill

Yesterday was my 40th birthday. I guess I am now over the Hill. How appropriate.

Marcy made cupcakes for league night. Golfers ate them. Sugar rushes were had.

Congrats to Frank Strauss who shot a personal best 53 (-1) to win last night. Andy D, Jimmy B, and I were nipping at his heels with 55s.

Dan Fox and Luke A won the cash CTPs and also nice Budweiser St. Paddy's hats donated by Josh St. D.

In our first Skills contest, Jeff Cooper went home with a nice Innova microfiber towel by winning the "Roller to the Birthday Boy" competition.

Next week start time is 5:00. Get one last round in before the KOH!

New waiting area in the works

We just picked up some landscaping supplies from "Uncle" Bradley Arnall. He is going to create a bigger waiting area around the kiosk on hole 1 and plant some flowers and other cool stuff. Thanks Bradley!

He'll be there tomorrow morning if you'd like to help. A few of us will also be there building some new teeboxes.

Devens discs are in!

I came home today to find a couple boxes from Innova sitting in the driveway. Yep, our very first Devens Disc Golf discs have arrived!

Get your very own Devens disc for $10 or for free when you buy a 2010 Devens bag tag. Choose from a DX Roc or DX Aviar driver. I think they look pretty nice, but I may be a bit biased.

We'll be teeing off at 4:30 today at the Wednesday Weekly. Don't forget a St. Paddy's CTP or Skills Challenge prize. Half-eaten corned beef sandwiches don't count!

Hill yeah! There's been a disc golf wedding!

Marcy and I got married yesterday, officially forming the new and improved Killer B Borelli's!

Congratulations to us! :-)

We thought about getting married on our hole 9 at Devens, but since Bobka hasn't installed that hot tub yet that I've been asking for, we decided on a great inn on Lake Winnipesaukee instead.

If the blog isn't updated over the next few weeks, you'll know why -- we'll be disc golfing in the sunny Caribbean!

Season is starting up; join the PDGA and NEFA!

If you love disc golf, why not join the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) or the New England Flying Disc Association (NEFA)?

Your membership helps continue to build the sport both locally and nationally as well as support efforts to attract sponsorship, spectators, and media coverage.

When you join either group, you'll get a lifetime membership number. The PDGA offers a free disc, a subscription to Disc Golfer magazine, and other benefits. If you play any PDGA-sanctioned events, you'll also get an official rating and over time see how you've gotten better.

NEFA members can participate in the NEFA Points Series and earn points at specific tournaments.

• Join the PDGA now under the "Refer-a-Friend" program (use my PDGA number 23492 and I will donate my credits to the course)
• Join NEFA now to qualify for all NEFA points series events this year.
  

I've been a PDGA member for nine years and a NEFA for probably ten. It is fun to look back at how my PDGA rating has gone up over the years. In 2004, my rating was 783 and is now up to 937. The goal of course is to be a 1000+ rated golfer, but since that is usually where the top touring pro players sit, I doubt I'll ever get there!

I am currently the MA state rep for NEFA, so feel free to contact me with an questions about NEFA or disc golf in New England.

Spring training WW style

Ten golfers and one caddy showed up on our first Wednesday Weekly league night. Seven tags were purchased and Steve Walker announced that now that he holds #3, we won't be seeing him for a while!

Since it is Spring training and sunlight was at a premium, we played random doubles for fun. Ken and Dan had the hot round with six deuces and just one 4 on hole 18. Nice job guys!

Our Wednesday weekly tag league starts this week on March 10 at 3:45. $5 each week gets you two player pools, cash payout, cash CTPs, an ace pot, and the ever-popular Skills Challenge.

What a day!

Wow, what a first day! 37 golfers registered on day 1. That makes us more than half-full and leaves just 35 spots open.

We got a nice sampling of northern New England golfers from ME, VT, NH, and MA. Maybe we'll get some of you CT and RI folks Thursday.

I'll be computer-less for much of the day tomorrow, so there will be few if any updates. If by chance we overfill because I haven't been able to close the store, we will put you on the wait list and hold your payment for a bit in case people drop out. Or, you can request it back and get off the waitlist.

Marcy and I turned her Subaroooo into a low rider today and dropped off 330 pounds of food (306 items) and a big fat check for $1115.16 to the Loaves and Fishes. They were overjoyed and wanted me to thank everyone very much.

We got a tour of how the place works and learned about the many free services they provide. That made us feel extra warm and fuzzy about being able to help so many people. So, please pat yourself on the back, everyone and thank you again for making this the best Ice Cube Open to date.

Highlights:

• 55 golfers
• About 10 inches of snow
  
• Pretty damn cold during check-in (10-12 degrees). Rd 1 was about 22, Rd 2 hit 32 but quickly cooled as the sun set.
• It was perfect winter golf conditions. Sunny and just warm enough where the snow didn't really melt. Dave Boliver gave me some scientific mumbo-jumbo about what was happening to the snow crystals, followed by "I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express."

• There were two tournament aces (Luke Adolph, 2; Matt Duquette, 9) and one practice ace (Erik Siersdale, 9)
• Boliver deuced hole 18. Others didn't have such luck. I heard several stories about discs going sledding down the Hill.
• The Devens Grill chili went fast. Thank you JC for the dogs and Frank for the fudge.

Ring of Ice

• John White was the only guy to sink his putt in the first and only round of the AM2/Rec Ring of Ice. I've never seen that happen before.
• After Daniel Marcus and Davis Johnson both missed their second round putts in the Pro/AM1 Ring of Ice, everyone jumped back in. After one more round, Rob Walker won. He was pretty surprised he beat everyone.

CTPs
Lots of stuff, including booze, new plastic, hat, and Innova calendars was given away. Winners were:
