Area 51

We had a record turnout last night at the WW. There were also at least 6 other people out playing.

Thank you Rob W for mowing the entry area and path to tee 1. Luke won a stylish Bud trucker hat for CTP on hole 1.

  • 1 John 51
  • 3 Dave J 55
  • 4 Mike C 58
  • 8 Ken 59
  • - Marcy 59 (mixed tees)
  • 12 Donnie 60
  • 14 Rob 62
  • 15 Luke 64
  • 24 Nut 65
  • 27 Pete N 66
  • 28a Craig 71
  • 28b Doug 71
  • 29 Dave M 71
  • - Miko 75

Due to a few duplicate tags being made, we have two 28s and 29s out there now. Rookie mistake, I know.

Let's start at 5:15 sharp next week to beat the sunset. Only a few more league nights left.

Thank you, golfers!

Thank you Jeff Maxwell, Louis Philbrook, and David Mallen for your recent donations to the course. I guarantee good golf karma in your future! May all your kicks off trees be good ones!

Here's what happens when you don't donate to the course -- bad rock karma! This is just one of a growing collection of plastic bits on the boulder on 14.

And here's a funky mushroom we came across on hole 4 a few weeks ago. Like wow, man!

Another Bert & Ernie parody - Gansta style

Yeah, I know the stereotypical disc golfer likes the Grateful Dead and other jam bands, but this rapping Bert and Ernie parody is pretty good.

Watch it a few times and see how well they synched up the hands and body movements. Nice!

Pick 'em if you got 'em

Join the Devens Disc Golf NFL Pick 'Em Challenge. It's free. All I ask is that you make your picks every week. That's about 1 minute per week. Can you handle that?

Winner gets nothing but a pat on the back and the right to say that you know how to pick 'em better than the rest of us. First game is next Thursday, Sept 4.

Speaking of picking, what movie is this from?
Porterhouse: Fifty bucks says the Smails kid picks his nose.
Lou: You're on.
Porterhouse: All right, kid, take your time.
[Spaulding picks his nose]

Lou: Double or nothing he eats it.
Porterhouse: Don't do it, kid!
[Spaulding eats it]
Porterhouse: That kid will eat anything!
Lou: He was hungry.

Ace Race - Oct. 18

Keep your eyes open for details on our 2nd Annual Ace Race on Saturday, Oct. 18. After two quick ace race rounds, we'll have lunch and then head out for some dubs action.

You could go home with a brand new bag filled with shiny new Discraft discs!

Thank you!

Thank you Craig Rowe for your recent donation to the course! It's people like you that help us keep the course open.

Sadly, Craig is one of not even a handful of golfers to contribute to the course this summer, even though there are tons of people playing it now. It sure would be nice to get some love from our players.
  • No donations = no insurance = no Devens Disc Golf course. A few dollars a month is all we're asking.
Does anyone have any suggestions for building a secure donation box that we could leave by hole 1? Please email me your ideas or post a comment. Thanks!

NEFA at Worlds

A handful of New England golfers are playing this week at the 2008 PDGA Disc Golf World Championships in Kalamazoo, MI.

The latest rumor is that teen phenom Billy Dunne of CT nailed a 430 ft ace today and is currently in second place after one round. Keep it going, NEFA!

Smashing Olympics coverage

If you haven't tried NBC's live Olympics coverage on the Internet, you should. It is very cool. As an added bonus, there are no commentators rambling on, just the raw feed.

Right now I am watching team handball. Never seen it before but it seems pretty fun. Before I was watching badminton dubz. The fans were going crazy.

Watch now. Look in the left nav bar for live programs.

And if you ever need a boost to your patriotism, watch the Mens 4 x 100 free swimming relay team stick it to those cocky Frenchies. What a friggin' awesome race!

We're in the news again!

Here's some more great coverage for our course. Includes possibly the best disc golf photos ever taken, as well as some video staring Luke, Arty, and me. Thanks for stopping by, Stephen and Ann!

Hell Yeah!

The Green Mountain Open was a lot of fun this weekend despite a few torrential downpours at both N. Calais and Sugarbush.

Room 201: Dave, Marcy, John, Daniel, Phil

I'm happy to say that Devens made a fine showing up in VT. Marcy finished 3rd, two strokes behind the Intermediate Women winner and also won a CTP. I finished 11th in AM1 and Ed H finished 4th in Mens Advanced Masters. As for Dave and Phil, let's just say they've had better days. Hell yeah!

John and Marcy hobnob with '06 Pro World Doubles Champion
Jay Reading and 3-time Pro Womens World Champion Des Reading

We finished! John, Marcy, and Dave
