Oh, no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was Beauty killed the Beast.

There have been three major releases of the movie King Kong. The original made its debut in 1933, followed by another in 1973, and finally the most recent 2005 version.

The 1933 version starred Fay Wray and had several working titles including The Ape, The Beast, and The Eighth Wonder. It grossed $90,000 its opening weekend, the biggest opening ever at the time.

The 1976 version featured Jeff Bridges, Charles Grodin, and Jessica Lange and received an Academy Award for Best Special Effects, an award it shared with Logan's Run.



The 2005 version featured Jack Black and Naomii Watts. It took in $9.7 million on its opening day and won three Academy Awards.
